I Felt the Need to Give Up

Dear Board Members of Resident Relief,

The reason for this letter is to serve purpose and gratitude towards what the board members of Resident Relief have done for me.

When the recession started near a year ago, I did not expect something that would take a complete change in our world today. In 2019, I dedicated the year to pursue my studies to have a career. I had a job in which I was proud to work hard for two years. However, the business managed to be sold in an effort to save the company. My peers and I were laid off and it was not until another opportunity came through for me in 2020. The following week when Covid got announced, my soon-to-be job was postponed to start.

Three of my closest relatives have now passed away due to Covid and heart failure.

As a single woman, things became challenging and difficult for me. I lost hope and feared losing my home and only best friend, Roy. The worst-case scenario of then and now was to think of having to give him up for adoption. After a few months, the company that was in the process of hiring me never reached out to me. It was not until I was able to reach them and ask about the status of my orientation that I found out as a result of COVID, the company filed for chapter-eleven bankruptcy while in the process of closing a few locations. I suffered, and although I tried to face adversity, I hoped that things would change for me.

In June of 2020, my family received unexpected news of illness and it continued to January of this year. Three of my closest relatives have now passed away due to Covid and heart failure. It was through this period that I took the time to reflect and grieve our family’s loss. I felt the need to give up. It was through a difficult time like this that Resident Relief reached me to inform me that my request had been granted.

It was through you guys that made me have the faith to continue to move forward.

I wanted to take the time to write this letter to show my gratitude and the patience it took to get here. I would also like the board members of Resident Relief to know that many people who have been through a period like me would like to thank you for everything you do. Besides being now part of this community, I also would like to mention how Evolve has helped me. I am grateful that the program has helped in many ways I could not imagine, and most allowed me to feel reassurance financially. Although the completion of my evaluation overall had been reached, one thing I learned is not to give up hope. It was through you guys that made me have the faith to continue to move forward.

Thank you sincerely,
Jennifer and Roy
